10 Questions for Sino

January 16th, 2017

We had a little chat with Remi „Sino“ Souvignet, the French language caster of the Female Starcraft League.

Hello, Sino. You are the French caster of the FSL. Can you give us some background information about you first, like your age, where you live and what you do for a living?

Hello, my name is Rémi "SinO" Souvignet, I'm 29 years old and I live in Lyon, France. I'm a graphic designer.

What is your race and current league in Starcraft 2? Why did you choose it?

I play Terran at diamond level nowadays. I think I'm a decent player but I don't play enough to be really good at this game. To sum up my history with races: I started with Protoss then played Random in Wings of Liberty, Random then Terran in Heart of the Swarm (That's when I understood how awesome Terran is), and when LOTV came out I went Random then Terran again.

How long have you been playing Starcraft 2 and what got you started? Why do you enjoy playing the game?

I have been playing Starcraft 2 since day 1. I played the Starcraft 1 campaign when I was around 12 and I fell in love with the game. I did not even know that there were competitions, I just played the campaign over and over through the years and I still like to play it from time to time. With Starcraft 2 I started to watch a lot of tournaments and discovered the multiplayer and competitive side of the game.

How did you become the French caster of the FSL and why where you interested in casting the FSL in the first place?

I did some casting around 2012-13 for Ubiteam, just to try it, but it never went very far. Especially because I was in school at that time. For FSL I just saw one of your posts on TeamLiquid talking about this league. And I decided to apply just to help the scene grow. This was something that I thought was (sadly) missing in the SC2 scene: more strong female figureheads to inspire more other female gamers to enter this game. So at first it was more about helping in any way possible and second I thought it'd be cool if I could cast this league.

What is your favorite / least favorite matchup to cast and why?

TvZ is my favorite matchup to play, watch and cast. This matchup is just beautiful in every way for me. I love the fact that multitasking and pressure is the key to win. When you watch two top players in this matchup, that is when you see how beautiful this game is, in my opinion. So many things happen at the same time. If Terran doesn't go Mech of course (haha).

PvP is my least favorite matchup, because I don't like Protoss. So, when you double it, I really don't like it. I disliked the Colossi vs Colossi fights in WoL and HotS, because they were way too boring. I think it's way better now. The Disruptor brought more dynamic into the matchup but PvP is still too static for me.

Name three FSL players you are particularly excited to cast and tell us what excites you about their gameplay the most.

First of all, Miyako. Of course at the begining it was simply because she was the French player of the FSL and Terran. But step by step I started to enjoy watching her games just because I love the way she diversifies her builds. She tries to play to win but to entertain the audience as well.

Second is Koshkii, I just love watching her surprising me over and over. Most of the time when I watch her games I feel something like "Okay, this time she's lost!" but then she pushes again and - I don't know how - she just makes it happen. She is a very inspiring player to watch. She represents the "never give up" mantra.

Last would be Sunokasuri just because she is this very aggressive type of player but not the brainless one. She just adapts her playstyle very well depending on who she's playing against. And it makes some games very different from what you can usually see.

Who's your favorite for winning the season 2 playoffs?

Koshkii impressed me countless times this season and her score also speaks for itself. But coming into the playoffs everything becomes blurry. My top 3 would be Koshkii, Miyako and Miezekotze, but in the end I'm sure Miyako will take it all because, you know, FRANCE! WHAT YOU GONNA DO? (Haha). Anyways, I think the playoffs will be sick and I can't wait to start with it!

If somehow your biggest wish for season 3 of the FSL could come true, what would it be?

For me, I would love to see that there'd be so many players signing up that we'd have to split them into FSL "Rookie" and FSL "Pro". I just want to see the scene grow more and more, until there's no need to have an FSL anymore. I know it sounds harsh. I love this league but if one day this league does not need to continue as FSL but as JSL (Judeau Starcraft League ^^) for example, I could say "Job's done!". To make it shorter: more players and more sponsors would be great. :)

What do you do, when you don't play or cast Starcraft? Please, tell us about your hobbies.

I draw and play a lot when I'm alone in my house. I go to the gym and love watching animes. On weekends I'm usually just seeing my friends and party.

Time for shout-outs and to tell the people where they can see and follow you!

First shout-out to you, Judeau and thank you for running this league and letting me cast it for almost 5 months now. Thanks to the players who are just always so nice to me. I hope everyone will keep up the good work ! If you want to follow me do it on Twitch "SinOSC2" or on Twitter @SinOSC2. And special shout-outs to my viewers. I have a very loveable French community that gathers on my stream everytime! Big shout-out to Haik, Arugiro, Guizz and Artyk who are re-watching my casts almost everytime and help me improving the stream. Thanks for this interview and a Happy New Year :).

Thank you very much for the interview and for being such a reliable, enthusiastic and overall awesome part of the team!
